Doma United maintained their perfect start to the new Nigeria Premier Football League season with a 2-0 win over nine-time champions Enyimba at the Pantami Stadium on Saturday.

Sadiq Rilwanu broke the deadlock in the 32nd minute, before Yusuf Fantami doubled the hosts’ advantage in the 76th minute to seal a third straight victory for the newly promoted side.

The result took the Savannah Tigers to nine points from as many available, with five goals scored and none conceded so far this term. Doma United had already announced their arrival in the top-flight with a 2-0 win over fellow newcomers Sporting Lagos on the opening weekend, before following up with a narrow 1-0 victory away at Inter Lagos.

Enyimba, by contrast, remain without a point after their available fixtures, having opened the campaign with a 2-1 defeat away to Niger Tornadoes.

Their Matchday Two meeting with Shooting Stars was postponed because of the Aba club’s continental commitments, leaving Saturday’s trip to Gombe as their first outing in almost a month.

The visitors pushed for a way back into the contest before the interval, but could not find a breakthrough as Doma United held firm to lead 1-0 at half-time.

Enyimba continued to search for an equaliser after the restart, though it was the hosts who remained the more threatening side, eventually securing the points through Fantami’s second-half strike.

Doma United will now turn their attention to an away trip to Kano Pillars in their next league outing.
