Ex-PDP chair Bamanga Tukur for burial on Sunday in Yola

The family of the late National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, has fixed Sunday, September 13, 2026, for his burial in Yola, Adamawa State.
PUNCH Online had earlier reported the death of the former PDP national chairman on Saturday.
Tukur’s son and Secretary to the Adamawa State Government, Awwal Tukur, announced this in a statement issued in Yola on Saturday.
Awwal said his father, who died in Abuja on Saturday, would be buried after funeral prayers at the Lamido’s Palace by 10am on Sunday.
“The late elder statesman will be laid to rest on Sunday, 13th September, 2026, after funeral prayers at the Lamido’s Palace by 10:00 a.m.,” he said.
He added that the former Governor of the old Gongola State died three days before his 91st birthday.
“He is survived by two wives and 18 children, among them the Secretary to the Government of Adamawa State, Awwal Tukur,” the statement said.
Tukur, who would have turned 91 on September 15, served as Governor of the old Gongola State and later as Minister of Industries during the military regime of former Head of State, Gen. Sani Abacha.
He was also National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party from March 2012 to January 2014 and served as president of the Africa Business Roundtable in 2012.
President Bola Tinubu mourned the death of the elder statesman, describing it as a loss to Nigeria.
Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri also declared three days of mourning in honour of the former governor and PDP national chairman.
