Trump calls for a united Ireland during Dublin visit: ‘It’s going to happen eventually’

US President Donald Trump has stated he would ‘love to see’ a united Ireland, expressing his belief that unification will eventually happen.
Trump acknowledged that the UK will have a say in any future unification process during his visit to Dublin. Adding: “The ⁠way I look at it, it’s going to happen eventually … I think it would be a fantastic thing.”
The US President met with Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin and Irish President Catherine Connolly to discuss trans-Atlantic economic and cultural ties.
The visit coincides with a trip to Trump’s golf resort in Doonbeg, where he is attending a major golf tournament.
The high-profile visit sparked local protests in Dublin alongside security cordons that caused minor disruptions in the capital.
