Police issue update on face coverings ahead of Portsmouth protest
- Protesters in Portsmouth wearing face coverings this weekend face arrest under Section 158 of the Crime and Policing Act.
- The police measures follow planned demonstrations on Saturday by the South Coast Patriots and a counter-protest by Stand up to Racism.
- Hampshire Police will also enforce a Section 60AA order giving officers the power to require the removal of face coverings.
- The enhanced policing powers will be active from 9am Saturday to 9am Sunday following violent public disorder during anti-migrant protests last weekend.
- A 42-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of violent disorder and assaulting a constable in connection with last weekend’s unrest.
