Nasarawa blames delayed emergency response on lack of specialised personnel

The Nasarawa State Emergency Management Agency has attributed delays in responding to emergency cases in the state to a lack of specialised personnel and a technical unit within the agency.
The Director-General of the agency, Mr Benjamin Akwash, stated this on Thursday in Lafia when the agency appeared before the Nasarawa State House of Assembly Committee on Public Accounts to present its budget performance for the second quarter of 2026.
Akwash said the absence of specialised personnel and professional units, including Relief and Rehabilitation, Medical and Technical, within the agency was hampering emergency response.
He called on the committee to intervene to address the challenges for effective service delivery.
The D-G pledged to engage the appropriate quarters to improve the narrative around response management.
Akwash further commended Gov. Abdullahi Sule for prioritising the activities of the agency.
On his part, the Chairman of the committee, Mr Solomon Akwashiki, commended the D-G for introducing innovations in disaster management in the state.
Akwashiki also hailed the agency for its good performance and called for its sustenance.
He said the oversight function was to assess the budget performance of the agency for the second quarter.
The committee chairman assured the agency of its support to succeed.
“We will continue to support and collaborate with you in order to address your challenges for effective service delivery,” he assured.
