The Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, has alleged that he left the Labour Party because the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, forced him to do so.
Obi made the allegation while speaking during an interview on Arise TV on Thursday.
According to him, INEC had made it clear that his faction of the Labour Party would not be recognised if he remained in the party.
“I left that party because INEC told us with confidence that as long as I remained there, they would not recognise our side of the party, which they did a week after I left.”

Obi also accused the government of deliberately destabilising opposition political parties, alleging that the crisis within the Labour Party and other opposition parties was part of a broader attempt to weaken the opposition.
“The president said he is happy when there is a problem in other parties. In fact, they danced about it. All these things are happening because the government wants to destabilise every opposition party,” he said.
