Police hunt armed robbers in Delta community, recover gun

The Delta State Police Command has launched a manhunt for two masked men who allegedly attacked a 48-year-old man in his residence in the Effurun area of Uvwie Local Government Area, recovering a locally made firearm abandoned by the suspects.
The suspects, who were armed with a locally made shotgun, allegedly broke into the victim’s residence in the Charlisco area of NPA Express Road, Effurun, at about 5:30am on September 4, 2026.
The command’s spokesman, SP Bright Edafe, said the victim confronted and wrestled with one of the suspects carrying the firearm, during which the gun broke.
He said the second suspect struck the victim on the forehead before both men fled, abandoning the firearm.
Edafe said, “In a courageous act, the victim confronted and wrestled with the suspect carrying the firearm, during which the gun broke.
“The second suspect struck the victim on the forehead before both suspects fled, abandoning the firearm.”
According to the PPRO, the incident was reported at the Ekpan Division at about 6:14am, following which the Divisional Police Officer deployed operatives to the scene.
He said, “Upon receipt of the report, the Divisional Police Officer immediately deployed operatives to the scene, where the broken locally made firearm was recovered.”
The victim was subsequently referred to a hospital for treatment, while police operatives commenced efforts to track down the fleeing suspects.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Samuel E. Erale, commended the victim for his courage in confronting the suspected robbers and assured him that the suspects would be tracked down and arrested.
In another development, operatives of the Special Anti-Kidnapping Unit, Ubulu-Uku, acting on credible intelligence, arrested a 40-year-old suspected drug peddler, Joy Anthony, in Agbor on September 6, 2026.
Edafe said the operatives carried out a covert operation at about 5am and subsequently executed a search warrant at Anthony’s residence in Agbor-Obi.
He said quantities of Swinol, Tramadol, Codeine, Canadian Loud and weeds suspected to be Indian hemp were recovered from the residence.
The suspect and the exhibits are currently in police custody, while investigation is ongoing, the statement added.
