Troops of Sector 2 Joint Task Force North West, Operation Fansan Yamma, have rescued 12 kidnapped civilians during separate operations in Kaura Namoda and Tsafe local government areas of Zamfara State.
The operations, according to the Joint Task Force, were conducted on September 7, 2026, as part of ongoing efforts to disrupt terrorist activities and prevent abductions across the Joint Operations Area.
In the first operation, troops responded to a distress call after terrorists infiltrated a residence at Tsohon Tasha in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area.
The Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Lt Col Aliyu Danja, in a statement he made available to newsmen on Tuesday evening, said troops engaged the terrorists, forcing them to abandon six kidnapped civilians and flee across a nearby river.
He said the rescued victims were evacuated and subsequently reunited with their families.
“In the first incident, troops responded to a distress call following the infiltration of terrorists into a residence at Tsohon Tasha, Kaura Namoda Local Government Area.
“Troops engaged the terrorists, forcing them to abandon six abducted civilians and flee across a nearby river,” Danja said in a statement issued on Tuesday.
In a separate operation in Tsafe LGA, troops monitoring activities along the Main Supply Route observed terrorists attempting to intercept a Sharon vehicle at Kwanoni Village.
Danja said the troops swiftly mobilised to the location and engaged the terrorists, forcing them to abandon the operation and retreat into the adjoining bush.
“Troops swiftly mobilised to the location and engaged the terrorists, forcing them to abort their attempt and withdraw into the adjoining bush. Subsequently, six civilians were rescued,” he said.
The military spokesman described the operations as further evidence of the commitment of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to protecting lives and property while restricting the activities of terrorists across the region.
He said, “The successful operations further demonstrate the unwavering commitment of troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to secure lives and property of the citizenry while disrupting their activities and denying them freedom of action across the Joint Operations Area.”
Danja also urged residents to continue providing security agencies with relevant information to support ongoing operations against terrorists and other criminal elements.
“Operation Fansan Yamma urges the general public to continue to support security agencies with relevant information to enable the Theatre to eradicate terrorist elements within the Joint Operations Area,” he said.
