2027: SDP Adebayo unveils manifesto, promises end to insecurity

The presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party, Adewole Adebayo, has challenged President Bola Tinubu to a public debate ahead of the 2027 presidential election, declaring that his administration would defeat insecurity within four years if elected.
Adebayo spoke in Abuja on Tuesday while unveiling the SDP’s 2027–2031 manifesto, titled Farewell to Poverty and Insecurity.
He said tackling insecurity would be a major priority of an SDP government, arguing that a change in leadership was necessary to address the country’s security challenges.
“We are promising that in four years, we are going to defeat insecurity,” Adebayo said.
He further urged Nigerians to use their votes to effect a change of government in the 2027 election.
“When you use your vote on January 16, 2027, to change the government, you have already gone 60 per cent of the way towards changing the way things are done,” he said.
The SDP candidate also challenged Tinubu to a public debate, saying Nigerians deserved an opportunity to compare the policies and records of the candidates ahead of the election.
Adebayo promised that an SDP government would establish four functional refineries, increase electricity generation to 75,000 megawatts and keep the pump price of petrol at not more than N200 per litre.
“The plan is to have four functional refineries in Nigeria and generate 75,000 megawatts of electricity.
“No Nigerian should be living in Nigeria and buying petrol at international prices. That is why we have arrived at N200 per litre for petrol,” he said.
The proposals form part of the SDP’s blueprint for addressing poverty, insecurity, unemployment, energy challenges and other economic difficulties confronting the country.
Presenting the manifesto, the National Chairman of the party, Sadiq Gombe, said the document was designed to provide an alternative to what he described as ineffective governance.
“For too long, Nigerians have been asked to endure without results,” Gombe said.
He said the party’s priority would be to create a country where Nigerians could live securely, become productive and achieve prosperity.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the SDP State Chairmen Forum, Femi Olaniyi, urged members of the party to take the manifesto to the grassroots and explain its proposals in terms that ordinary Nigerians could understand.
He said the document was more than a campaign slogan, describing it as a framework for tackling poverty and insecurity.
Adebayo’s manifesto comes as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general election, with opposition parties increasingly outlining their policy positions on the economy, security and the cost of living.
The SDP candidate also recently pledged to reduce the price of petrol, cooking gas and aviation fuel to N200 per litre within 12 months of assuming office, saying the plan would be supported by increased domestic refining capacity.
