  • Qinwen Zheng reached the US Open quarter-finals for the third time after defeating six-time grand slam champion Iga Swiatek 7-5 6-3.
  • Zheng mounted an extraordinary comeback from 0-5 down in the opening set to win seven games in a row, repeating her feat from the previous round against Madison Keys.
  • The former Olympic champion had to qualify for the main draw after missing large parts of the 2025 season with an elbow injury and dropping to world number 121.
  • Swiatek left Arthur Ashe Stadium in tears after committing 28 errors, with her last five grand slam exits coming in straight sets.
  • Zheng will face either second seed Elena Rybakina or two-time US Open champion Naomi Osaka in the last eight.
