King says Harry and Meghan are still not working royals despite UK return
- King Charles has instructed the Lord Chamberlain to issue guidance confirming the Duke and Duchess of Sussex remain private citizens following their return to the UK.
- The advice was distributed to government departments and the military after several requests for clarification were received following the couple’s return on 26 August.
- Harry and Meghan stepped down as working members of the Royal Family in January 2020 for personal and financial reasons.
- The official letter reiterated that their non-working status, financial independence, and privacy will continue to be fully respected.
- It said: “This position, distinct from the State and Royal duties undertaken by the working Royal Family, and with the personal latitude it brings the couple in respect of financial independence and protection of their privacy as they would wish, will continue to be fully respected.”
