An NHS health app site is the latest public sector-facing website in the UK to be targeted by hackers in order to promote illegal casinos.
My Therappy, the website of a healthtech company established in 2013 as a health app review site for stroke patients, now carries sections and articles related to the promotion of non-UK and non-GamStop online casinos.
The site appears to have last posted news in October 2020, though articles such as ‘betting sites not on GamStop’ and ‘Non-GamStop casinos’ have recently appeared on the site.
The Northern Devon Healthcare NHS Trust originally created and developed the platform, though it has since been succeeded by the Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, according to SBC News, who cover the global gambling industry.
In a statement on the situation made to Digital Health, the Foundation Trust said: “We have raised this with our digital and cyber security teams for investigation.
“We are currently establishing the status of the website domain and will provide a further update once we have completed our enquiries.
“We take matters relating to online safety and security seriously and are looking into this as a priority,” the statement added.
