Fwends reunite! The original stars of The Inbetweeners are officially returning in a third film being made for Netflix.
In October 2025, creators Damon Beesley and Iain Morris claimed that the Channel 4 sitcom, which followed the adolescent travails of four foul-mouthed teens, would be coming back in some form.
It’s now been confirmed that Simon Bird, Joe Thomas, James Buckley and Blake Harrison are all returning as socially inept schoolmates Will, Simon, Jay and Neil for The Inbetweeners 3, which starts production on Monday (7 September). While unconfirmed, a 2027 release date is expected.
open image in galleryOnly the four lead cast members have been announced so far, so it’s still unknown whether Rivals star Emily Atack, who played the popular character Charlotte Hinchcliffe, has signed up.
Producers were reportedly hoping to secure the involvement of Atack, with a source calling her “one of the missing pieces in the project they’re keen to get in place”.
Originally broadcast on E4 from 2008 to 2010, The Inbetweeners was conceived as a more realistic counterpoint to the darker teen drama Skins. It went on to become a surprise phenomenon, pulling record audiences and winning a Bafta Audience Award in 2010.
Two films followed –The Inbetweeners Movie in 2011 and The Inbetweeners 2 in 2014 – which together grossed over £100m worldwide, setting box-office records for UK comedies. It is not currently known whether the film will be released in cinemas before coming out on Netflix.

“I think the temperature at the moment is that people would like an Inbetweeners,” he said. “It would release some sort of pressure. Just make sure we keep all that silly, disgusting humour. That’s what I assume people would want.”
Whatever happens, fans are hoping the reboot will be better than their last reunion: a two-hour special that aired on New Year’s Day in 2019, marking the 10th anniversary of the sitcom’s debut.
The special received overall negative feedback, with many claiming it seemed as though the four actors did not want to be there. Critics branded the special “shambolic”, with Buckley admitting that it a “mistake”.
Buckley is currently one of the most popular celebrities on personalised video app Cameo, where fans regularly ask him to deliver Jay’s lewd catchphrases. He joined the video platform in March 2020 and is reported to have become the app’s first millionaire in September 2022.
