An Amazon cargo plane overshot the runway at Miami International Airport, hitting multiple vehicles and bursting into flames, sending thick dark clouds of smoke into the air Sunday afternoon.
The Federal Aviation Administration said the aircraft overran the runway and crashed while landing around 2 p.m. The flight had been. heading to Florida from Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Photos and videos shared online appeared to show the Prime Air plane had come to a rest beside a roadway. It was not immediately clear if anyone was injured.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue units were at the airport trying to extinguish the blaze, the agency wrote on social media.
“The FAA will investigate,” the agency said in a statement.
All runways and taxiways were closed, and a ground stop is in effect, an airport spokesperson said. During a ground stop, all flights are put on hold and the airport is essentially shut down.
The FAA says it expects flights to be delayed even after the airport reopens.
