Why King Charles will not attend the funeral of Norway’s King Harald
- The Prince of Wales will represent his father, King Charles, at the funeral of King Harald V of Norway at Oslo Cathedral on 9 September.
- The Princess Royal will also attend the service in a private capacity as godmother to Norway’s new monarch, King Haakon VIII.
- King Harald V died on 28 August at the age of 89 following a 35-year reign during which he was remembered as a modernising and inclusive monarch.
- King Charles paid tribute to his late cousin, praising his unwavering dedication, kindness, compassion, and deep sense of duty.
- In line with royal precedent, the British sovereign does not attend the funerals of foreign heads of state.
