Apologise now or resign – PDP fires back at Gov Nwifuru over APC dominance statement

The Ebonyi State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has fired back at Governor Francis Nwifuru, over his recent statements against opposition figures in the state.

Speaking during a live radio program on Friday, the PDP Publicity Secretary in Ebonyi State, Darlington Peter-Onwe, urged Governor Nwifuru to immediately retract the statements, tender an unreserved apology, or resign from office.

According to the PDP, the Governor’s utterances are inciting and capable of stoking political violence ahead of the 2027 general elections.

It charged the governor to take responsibility for his words, stressing that the rhetoric has already triggered a wave of hostility against members of opposition parties and media practitioners in the state.

“The Governor should apologise to Ebonyians or resign. He should retract the statement or step down because he has violated the fundamental objectives and directive principles of state policy.

“Section 14 of the Constitution explicitly provides that the primary responsibility of government is the protection of lives and property. By making such statements, he is now the one insinuating violence,” the statement said.

Recall that the governor on Tuesday during the swearing-in ceremony of newly elected local government council chairmen and their deputies in Abakaliki directed them to enforce total All Progressives Congress, APC, dominance at the grassroots ahead of the 2027 polls.

Governor Nwifuru equally warned them that failure to secure their local government areas would carry swift consequences.

“You must not allow the opposition to win in your respective local government councils during the 2027 general elections,” the governor had charged the chairmen.
