Trump addresses Lindsay Clancy mistrial and calls case a ‘terrible situation’

(Reuters)
  • President Donald Trump was asked about the Lindsay Clancy mistrial at an Oval Office event Friday and said that he’s kept up with it.
  • “It’s hard not to follow. I followed it pretty much. It’s a shame. It’s a horrible tragedy,” Trump said. “Looks like it’s a hung jury and I think the judge just said it’s gonna be a mistrial. I assume there’s going to be another trial.”
  • He continued, “It’s a terrible situation. Look, she did a horrible, horrible thing. Can’t be worse, but you’ll find out what the price to pay is. … But I guess they gotta go through another trial. It’s too bad.”
  • The judge declared a mistrial in the murder trial against Clancy, a mom-of-three who killed her three young children, after the jury failed to reach a verdict after seven days of deliberations.
  • One holdout juror is believed to have been behind the deadlock and the local district attorney said he has not yet decided whether they will retry the case.
