Millions of Nigerians trapped in poverty – Gov Makinde

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has said millions of Nigerians remain trapped in poverty and are unable to experience meaningful improvements in their lives despite working hard.

Makinde made the remark while noting that Nigeria’s problems are bigger than those occupying public offices.

In his newsletter, the governor also expressed concern that insecurity continues to affect the lives of Nigerians.

Makinde said, “Over the years, we have changed governments, introduced new policies, and promised ourselves new starts. Yet, for millions of Nigerians, the basic results have stayed mostly the same.

“Too many of our people are still stuck in poverty. Many families put in a lot of effort but still don’t see real improvements in their lives.

“Too many young people in Nigeria can’t see a clear way to go from school to better chances in life.

“People are still struggling because of insecurity, and many organizations meant to help them are not working properly.

“This shows that Nigeria’s problem is larger than just the people holding government positions at any given moment.

“We need to look at the systems, rules, and ways things are set up that keep on creating results that don’t help most of our people.”
