King Charles to receive £99.9 million after ‘significantly increasing’ royal work
- The House of Commons has approved a motion to update the funding formula for the British monarchy, setting King Charles’s core annual funding at £99.9 million for 2027-28.
- Treasury minister Dan Tomlinson explained that core funding has increased from £51.8 million in 2024-25 due to King Charles “significantly increasing” his public engagements and state visits compared to Queen Elizabeth II’s final years.
- The Sovereign Grant percentage of Crown Estate net profits will rise to about 20.5 per cent to adequately support official royal duties, staffing, and travel.
- Funds will also address property maintenance backlogs, strengthen cybersecurity systems, and install energy-efficient heating across occupied royal palaces.
- Despite the rise in core funding, the overall Sovereign Grant will decrease from £137.9 million as the 10-year Buckingham Palace refurbishment programme nears completion.
