MPs probing files detailing the appointment of Peter Mandelson as US ambassador have accused Sir Keir Starmer of “withholding” documents from their inquiry.
The Intelligence and Security Committee (ISC) has accused the government of applying redactions “far too broadly” to files related to Peter Mandelson’s appointment as US ambassador.
The ISC stated that certain documents, including a vetting file, are being withheld from their inquiry, which they believe contravenes the terms of the humble address.
The committee raised “grave concerns” about the extensive use of unofficial systems, such as WhatsApp, for conducting government business and formulating policy.
Concerns were also expressed regarding the use of “lower-level government IT systems” instead of more secure ones, which the ISC warned puts the UK’s national security at risk.
