Taangahar unveils squad for IHF Women’s Nations tourney

Coach of Nigeria’s Senior Women’s Handball National Team, Michael Taangahar, has unveiled a 16-player squad for the inaugural IHF Women’s Nations Trophy Africa Zone III, scheduled for September 2 to 6, 2026, in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.

The team has been in camp for several weeks at the Indoor Sports Hall, Package B of the MKO Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, where Taangahar has put the players through their paces ahead of the competition.

As part of final preparations, the team will travel to the Benin Republic for friendly matches before heading to Ouagadougou. Nigeria will open its campaign against Ghana on Thursday, September 3, before facing hosts Burkina Faso on Friday, September 4, in their second group game.

The 16 players named are Bisi Oyewusi, Matthew Esther, Ahamefula Chinemerem, Sunday Hope, Ovetuo Rachael, Saaloo Daina, Audu Mercy, Emuore Enifome, Modebe Queen, Yusuf Toyin, Babatunde Taiwo, Ogbusimba Childera, Musa Sadiya, Nuhu Wuraola, Onyekwere Lucy and Muhammad Bilkisu.

Taangahar will be assisted by Innocent Chukwuma Nwankwo, with both hoping to guide the team to a strong start in Burkina Faso.
