JUST IN: Mamudu strikes as Falconets beat Poland 1-0 in World Cup warm-up

Nigeria’s Falconets began their final preparations for the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup with a 1-0 victory over Poland in an international friendly on Friday at the Municipal Stadium, Brzeg, Poland.
Mary Mamudu scored the only goal of the encounter as the Falconets secured the win against the Poland U-20 women’s side.
The official Super Falcons X account confirmed the result after the final whistle on Friday, reporting that Mamudu’s goal in the first half handed Nigeria the victory.
The forward struck in first-half stoppage time, scoring in the 45th minute plus one to give Nigeria a 1-0 lead going into the interval.
Neither side could find the net after the restart as Nigeria held on to claim victory in their first of two scheduled warm-up matches in Poland.
The victory forms part of the Falconets’ preparations for the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, which will be staged in Poland from August 31 to September 22.
The Nigeria Football Federation had earlier confirmed that the team would play Poland on August 28 before facing South Korea on September 1 as part of their final preparations for the tournament.
The Falconets are drawn in Group F alongside Spain, China PR and New Caledonia.
Nigeria will be aiming to go beyond its previous best performances at the tournament, having finished runners-up in 2010 and 2014.
The Falconets have never won the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, despite being one of the competition’s most consistent teams.
Friday’s victory therefore provides a positive start to their final preparations as they continue their push for a historic title.
The team will next face South Korea in their second friendly on September 1.
