Ballon d’Or 2026: ‘He represents modern football’ – Luca Toni names player to win award

Former Italian striker, Luca Toni has backed Bayern Munich striker, Harry Kane to win the Ballon d’Or this year.

Toni recently spoke during Kane’s official presentation ceremony for the 2025/26 European Golden Shoe.

He said the England captain deserved to win the Ballon d’Or this year after scoring 73 goals for club and country last season.

Toni, who played for Bayern Munich during his professional career, said Kane represents modern football.

“You represent modern football; you deserve to win the Ballon d’Or,” Toni said of Kane.

“You have won the European Golden Boot for the second time now; only Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have won the trophy more often.

“Last season, you scored 73 goals. This is the second-best season of this century,” he added.
