A woman is accused of ramming her car into her husband and stabbing him outside of an Indiana courthouse following the couple’s divorce hearing, according to reports.

Adriana Cisneros-Velazquez, of Crown Point, Indiana, was arrested on charges including attempted murder, two counts of attempted aggravated battery and two counts of domestic battery in connection with the Monday, August 24, incident, according to WGN-TV.

While driving a Honda, Cisneros-Velazquez, 32, was seen crashing into her husband, who had been on a motorcycle, outside the Lake County Government Center in Crown Point, located about a 50-mile drive southeast from Chicago, according to court documents reviewed by the TV station.

A witness told authorities that Cisneros-Velazquez’s husband “flew in the air” in the parking lot, the court documents said.

Cisneros-Velazquez then dragged him with her car before she crashed the vehicle, WGN-TV reported.

The man later explained to police that he had been “dragged by the vehicle for a short period of time before freeing himself,” according to an affidavit reviewed by Law&Crime. He also confirmed that he and his wife had appeared in divorce court for a hearing ahead of the incident.

After Cisneros-Velazquez struck him with her car, according to police, she stepped out of the vehicle and stabbed her husband in the arm with a knife, Law&Crime reported.

A witness told police that Cisneros-Velazquez’s husband was able to get the knife away from her, then started physically assaulting her, WGN-TV reported. He reportedly explained that his actions were in self-defense when speaking to police at a hospital.

Lake County Sheriff Oscar Martinez Jr. told CBS News that, according to the witness, the altercation between Cisneros-Velazquez and her husband began with a dispute following their divorce hearing.

After Cisneros-Velazquez crashed into her husband and stabbed him, witnesses intervened to end the physical altercation in the parking lot, Law&Crime reported. The incident was caught on surveillance footage.

In addition to her husband, Cisneros-Velazquez was evaluated at a hospital following the incident, CBS News reported.

She chose to not discuss what happened with authorities, per Law&Crime.

It was not immediately clear whether she retained an attorney or entered a plea.

Cisneros-Velazquez was ultimately detained in jail without bail, the Chicago Tribune reported.

Her husband’s divorce lawyer, George Galanos, told the newspaper that his client is “lucky she didn’t kill him.”

“I don’t think anybody expected it,” Galanos added, referring to the alleged attack.
