Powerful Typhoon Saudel hammers into islands in Japan
- Typhoon Saudel has tracked west over the East China Sea towards China’s eastern coast after battering Okinawa and other remote southwestern Japanese islands.
- Two women sustained minor injuries during the storm on Okinawa and nearby Amamioshima island.
- Around 150 flights to and from Okinawa’s Naha airport were cancelled as a result of the typhoon.
- More than 30,000 homes experienced power outages across Kagoshima prefecture, including the Amami region.
- Japan’s Meteorological Agency issued landslide warnings for the Amami region following over 23 cm of rainfall within 24 hours.
