The Kano State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of two suspects following the killing of one person and the injuring of three others after one of the suspects opened fire during a wedding ceremony at Tudun Yola Quarters in the Kano metropolis recently.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna, confirmed the arrest of the suspects via a WhatsApp message to PUNCH Metro on Tuesday.

Recall that there was pandemonium on Sunday, 16th August 2026, when Rabi’u Mukthar, 34, opened fire during a wedding ceremony at Tudun Yola Quarters in the Kano metropolis, killing one person and injuring three others.

“Yes, two suspects were arrested during the incident, which happened on Sunday, 16th August 2026, and the pump-action rifle was recovered as well. The case is still under investigation,” Haruna said.

The suspect was said to have come out from his house on the fateful day while music was booming at the venue of the event and opened fire on the guests with a pump-action gun.

He said, “The man, Rabiu Mukthar of Tudun Yola Quarters, used a pump-action gun to sporadically shoot at the gathering of the marriage celebration.”

“Immediately the police got information of the unfortunate incident; they swung into action, arrested the man alongside one other person, and the gun was recovered from him,” Haruna said.

He said during interrogation the suspect told the police that the people who organised the musical events didn’t consult them, as they just woke up being disturbed by the sound of the music, and he couldn’t sleep, a reason why he decided to open fire on the guests.

“The suspect and one other person are currently in police custody while investigation is ongoing to unravel the circumstances behind the incident,” he added.
