Nicolas Cage film franchise National Treasure to return after 20 years
- Director Jon Turteltaub has confirmed that National Treasure 3 is officially moving forward, nearly two decades after the release of the second film.
- Speaking on the National Treasure Hunt podcast, Turteltaub revealed that Disney has approved a newly developed script for the third installment.
- The director stated he hopes to bring back the original cast, including lead actor Nicolas Cage, to whatever extent possible.
- The original 2004 film and its 2007 sequel, Book of Secrets, were both major box-office successes, grossing over $800m globally combined.
- The development follows the cancellation of the Disney+ spin-off series National Treasure: Edge of History after a single season in 2023.
