The Nigerian Air Force, NAF, has intensified its air operations against terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and other criminal activities across the North-West, with a strengthened air presence in Sokoto State to support ongoing joint security operations.

In a post on its verified X handle on Sunday, NAF said the move is aimed at enhancing aerial surveillance, sustaining pressure on hostile elements and improving the capacity of security forces to respond swiftly to emerging threats within the Joint Operations Area.

The increased air presence is considered particularly important in countering asymmetric threats, as terrorists and bandits often exploit difficult terrain, mobility and concealment to evade ground forces.

Through the reach, speed and flexibility of air power, NAF is seeking to locate and disrupt hostile elements, restrict their freedom of movement and create operational opportunities for ground forces to consolidate their efforts.

The initiative also highlights the importance of effective air-ground coordination in tackling evolving security challenges across the region.

The NAF said the effort aligns with the commitment of the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, to maintaining a professional and mission-ready force capable of delivering air power effects in collaboration with sister services and other security agencies.

The Service reiterated its commitment to using air power and joint operations to protect lives and property, degrade terrorist and criminal networks, and support efforts to restore lasting peace and security across the North-West and the country.
