LASU probes lecturers over missing results, delayed graduation claims

The management of the Lagos State University has begun looking into allegations involving lecturers accused of failing to upload students’ results, a development reportedly linked to delayed graduation and possible extra years for some affected students.
The university reacted to the allegations in a post on its official X handle on Saturday after the matter was brought to public attention online.
“The attention of the University Management has been drawn to this allegation, and the matter is currently being looked into. Thank you for bringing it to our attention,” the management said.
The controversy began after claims emerged online after the varsity convocation that more than 100 students were stranded because a lecturer allegedly failed to upload their results since their 300-level studies.
According to the allegations, some of the affected students now face the possibility of spending an additional year in the university, not because they failed their courses, but due to the alleged failure to upload their results.
The issue was subsequently amplified by an X user, @TheAjakeManger, who alleged that the problem affected more students beyond the initially reported cases.
The user also accused a Head of Department of threatening some affected students, while claiming that current 400-level students were facing similar challenges.
“Dear @jidesanwoolu, they are now threatening the students and it’s not just this set that are affected. The current 400l are also facing the same setback,” the user wrote.
The user further claimed that over 1,000 students in the 200, 300 and 400 levels of the department were experiencing related academic problems.
Two lecturers have been linked to the controversy in online allegations, although neither has been found culpable by the university, which said the matter was still being investigated.
Meanwhile, the National Association of Nigerian Students President, Akinteye Babatunde, on X on Saturday, said that the student body and the Joint Campus Committee, Lagos Axis, had opened discussions with the university management.
In a separate post, he urged affected students to remain calm, saying the management had assured student leaders that the issue would be addressed next week.
“To all @LASUOfficial students that are affected with this, please remain calm as discussions have been opened with the management by the leadership of NANS and JCC LAGOS AXIS.
“The Management has assured us of resolving the issue next week, so please remain calm and don’t take actions that will be counterproductive,” he said.
The LASU management is expected to provide further details on the outcome of its ongoing inquiry.
