The All Progressives Grand Alliance candidate for Ebonyi North Senatorial District, Chikaodili Ojemba, has urged party members not to retaliate over the killing of its supporter, Mr Onwe Ubochi.
The News Agency of Nigeria recalls that Ubochi was killed by unidentified persons after participating in an event organised by APGA in the area on Wednesday.
Ojemba made the plea while speaking with newsmen on Friday, noting that he led the party’s leaders on a condolence visit to Ubochi’s family at Umuogudu Oshia, Ngbo, in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of the state.
The senatorial candidate described the killing as unfortunate, adding that everything would be done to pursue justice.
“The party faithful should be calm and law abiding as we trust the abilities of the state government and security agencies to unravel the killers.
“The grief is not only borne by the family but all of us and together, we shall get justice for the bereaved,” he said.
He urged security agencies to expedite action on unmasking Ubochi’s killers, noting that his death was painful to the family and APGA in the state.
“This is a call for decisive action from security agencies as it’s very pathetic that a man of that age would die under such circumstances.
“Those responsible for such dastardly act must be identified through a thorough investigation and be prosecuted,” he said.
Ojemba noted that the party would support the family in its trying period and that they should understand that they were not alone.
“APGA is a peaceful and law abiding party which appraches issues lawfully and not through violence,” he said.
NAN reports that the Ebonyi Police Command also issued a statement confirming the incident and the commencement of investigations into it. (NAN)
