Your performance will be judged by results – Gov Alia to new Benue commissioners

Benue State Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia has told the seven newly sworn-in commissioners that their performance will be judged by the results they deliver to the people, not by the positions they occupy.

Alia gave the charge on Friday during the swearing-in ceremony of six male and one female commissioners in Makurdi, where he urged the new appointees to prioritise service delivery, accountability and the welfare of Benue residents.

The governor congratulated the commissioners on their confirmation and appointment, describing their new roles as a call to serve the people and contribute to the state’s development, stability and prosperity.

He reminded them that the oath of office they took was a commitment to serve the entire people of Benue, not personal interests or political allies.

Alia said Benue residents expect their leaders to demonstrate competence, integrity, fairness, accountability and diligence, while also listening to their concerns, understanding their challenges and working tirelessly to improve their lives.

“I urge you to work together as one administration and not operate your ministries as isolated entities,” Alia said.

“Government cannot function effectively when MDAs operate in silos. The challenges confronting our people are interconnected, and our responses must therefore be collaboratively connected,” he added.

Alia also encouraged them to embrace innovation, technology, data and modern management practices to improve public service delivery.

He advised them to remain accessible to communities and stakeholders while maintaining the standards expected of public office.

“Your success will not be measured by the number of meetings you attend or speeches you make, but by the tangible improvements you bring to the lives of the people of Benue,” Alia said.

He assured the commissioners of his administration’s support but challenged them to justify the confidence placed in them through dedicated service.

Alia also reminded them that public office is temporary, but the legacy they leave behind could last for generations.

Those sworn in as commissioners are Kuma Yenge, Roy Terna, Monday Angwa, Elizabeth Ogenyi, Solomon Iorpev, Nick Eworo and Ankwa Amo.
