B’Haram kills police officer, seven others in Adamawa

Unknown gunmen suspected to be Boko Haram on Monday night attacked Gaya community in Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State, killing a police inspector and seven civilians.

The chairman of Hong Local Government Area, Dr Aliyu Saad, confirmed the attack to The PUNCH in an interview via telephone on Tuesday.

“The attackers came on the night of Monday and launched a bloody attack on two houses, burnt the houses and killed one police officer and seven civilians during the attack,” he said.

He disclosed that military, police, hunters and other security agencies had been deployed to the area in a manhunt for the attackers.

The state police command spokesman, SP Suleiman Nguroje, also confirmed the attack to The PUNCH on the telephone on Tuesday.

“The report we received from the area on Monday night was that five dead bodies were recovered, four civilians and an inspector of police, after the attackers left.

“We are still waiting for an update. Troops have been deployed with all the security agencies, including vigilante and hunters, to hunt for the attackers.

“If there is a new development concerning the attack, I will surely contact you for briefing,” he said.

This is the eighth time Hong LGA will suffer insurgent attacks this year.

A proposed military barracks to be located in Garaha, near the main Boko Haram route into the Sambisa Forest, is yet to take off.

Hong is the home town of two former Secretaries to the Government of the Federation, Mr Babachir Lawal and Mr Boss Mustapha.
