Fans of Scottish sitcoms are set for more snide jokes and innuendos as the BBC confirmed Two Doors Down will return for another series. While viewers of the show enjoyed a recent Christmas special, it has been three years since the last full run of the show aired.
Set in the fictional Latimer Crescent in suburban Glasgow, the sitcom centres around couple Beth and Eric Baird, their family, and quite a few nosy neighbours. With the show first airing on the BBC back in 2013, fans will be excited to see the cast return for an eighth series.
The last full series of Two Doors down aired in November 2023, just a few months after the death of the show’s co-writer Simon Carlyle. Only aged 48, his death was a shock for the industry. During his time on the show, Carlyle wrote over 40 hilarious episodes.
Following this death, the cast members of the show believed it was over. However, Carlyle’s long-time collaborator Gregor Sharp developed a one-off Christmas Special for December 2025 to feed the appetite of loyal fans who loved the show.
While the dates for the new series have yet to be announced, the production team shared the show will pick up right where it left off after the Christmas shenanigans. The show will also see the iconic cast step back into their characters once more.
Sharp told the BBC: “It was a lot of fun putting the band back together for the Christmas episode last year, so I’m really excited to be coming back with some new tunes, which we hope will turn out just as special. The cast are the most talented group of performers you could wish for, and I can’t wait to get started.”

The sitcom was first aired as a one-off special back in 2013, however it gained so much popularity that the first series was commissioned in 2016.
The next series will see Arabella Weir and Alex Norton once again play married couple Beth and Eric as they try to breathe through the chaos of their intrusive family members and neighbours.
Like the previous series, the show will continue to centre around small, trivial incidents that most families squabble over in their own homes.
For example, the only significant event in one popular episode is that Alan, played by Graham Stevely, has some spare doughnuts.
While fans of the show will see Beth and Eric still try to cling to the dream of a quiet life in suburban Glasgow, this will likely be disrupted by their neighbours Colin, Cathy and Christine – played by Jonathon Watson, Doon Mackichan and Elaine C. Smith.
BBC Scotland’s head of commissioning Louise Thorton said it was “fantastic” to see the return of these iconic characters which are “loved by audiences up and down the country”.
Jon Petrie, BBC director of comedy, added: “We’re really proud to bring it back for another series.”
While there is not a set day for the series return, Scottish fans can see the Two Doors Down cast live at Glasgow’s OVO Hydro later this year.
