The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Jigawa State has expressed optimism that it will defeat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections and form the next government in the state.

The ADC State Chairman, Dr Sani Muhammad Gumel, stated this while addressing journalists, saying the APC’s control of government would not stop the opposition party from winning the election.

Gumel said the political landscape in Jigawa was gradually changing, with the ADC gaining acceptance among various groups of voters across the state.

He said the party was strengthening its grassroots structures and mobilising political stakeholders ahead of the 2027 polls.

According to him, the ADC is targeting victory in all three senatorial districts, the 11 House of Representatives constituencies and the 31 State House of Assembly seats in Jigawa.

The chairman said voters would assess the APC based on its performance in office, stressing that incumbency does not automatically translate into electoral victory.

“Incumbency is not a guarantee of victory. What matters is the confidence of the people, the credibility of the candidates and the ability to provide good governance,” he said.

Gumel said the ADC was positioning itself as a credible alternative, with its political agenda focused on accountability, transparency, economic growth and improved welfare for citizens.

He added that the party had continued to receive politicians from different political parties who, he said, were committed to working together to challenge the APC in 2027.

“We have real and genuine politicians with grassroots support in our party. With credible candidates in all the positions, we are optimistic that ADC will take over power in Jigawa State come 2027,” he said.

The ADC chairman called on members and supporters to remain united and intensify mobilisation at the grassroots, while assuring that the party would continue consultations with political stakeholders and communities across the state.

He also urged women and youths to take an active role in the democratic process and ensure that their votes counted during the 2027 elections.

Gumel said the party would disclose further details of its programmes and electoral strategy as preparations for the elections intensify.
