Guinea Insurance completes capital raise, targets expansion

Guinea Insurance Plc has completed its recapitalisation programme, cleared a major regulatory hurdle and positioned the insurer to pursue new business opportunities with a stronger capital base.

The company announced the development on Friday, saying that it had successfully concluded its rights issue and private placement in line with the applicable minimum capital requirement for non-life insurance companies under the Nigerian Insurance Industry Reform Act 2025.

The completion of the capital-raising exercise has also secured Guinea Insurance’s place among insurers recognised by the National Insurance Commission as having satisfied the applicable recapitalisation requirement.

The development represents a significant step for the insurer, which can now shift its attention from raising additional capital to expanding its business, strengthening its market position and pursuing growth opportunities.

According to the company, the recapitalisation has strengthened its capital base, financial capacity and regulatory standing.

Guinea Insurance said that the enhanced capital position provides a stronger foundation for sustainable growth as competition intensifies across Nigeria’s insurance industry.

The insurer is also expected to have greater capacity to underwrite risks and pursue larger business opportunities as the sector adjusts to the higher capital requirements introduced under the new regulatory framework.

The company said that the successful completion of the exercise demonstrates its readiness to operate in the evolving insurance market while maintaining its obligations to customers and other stakeholders.

Guinea Insurance has also reassured policyholders, brokers, corporate customers, business partners and investors that its operations remain fully active.

“Guinea Insurance is also pleased to confirm that its name has been published by the National Insurance Commission among the insurance companies that have met the applicable recapitalisation requirement,” the firm said.

“This achievement represents a significant milestone for the Company and reinforces its financial capacity, regulatory standing and ability to pursue sustainable growth opportunities within Nigeria’s evolving insurance market.”

The insurer said that it continues to provide insurance solutions to customers and will honour valid claims as well as its policy and contractual obligations in the ordinary course of business.

With the recapitalisation now completed and its compliance recognised by NAICOM, Guinea Insurance said that its focus is shifting towards the next phase of its development.

The company said that it is positioned to take on business with renewed capacity and confidence, while seeking to create greater value for stakeholders.

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Guinea Insurance, Ademola Abidogun, said that the company remains committed to delivering stronger insurance capacity and sustainable growth.
