Truck kills pedestrian in Lagos-Ibadan Expressway crash

One person has died in a lone accident involving a Mack truck on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, around the Kara Bridge, outbound Lagos.
PUNCH Metro learnt from the spokesperson for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, Babatunde Akinbiyi, that the accident occurred at about 12:05 pm on Sunday.
Akinbiyi stated that rescue operatives from TRACE, the Federal Road Safety Corps, the police and the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority were deployed to the scene.
The TRACE spokesperson noted that the agencies arrived at about 12:20 pm and commenced traffic management and rescue operations.
He added that an eyewitness account indicated that the Mack truck, with number plate GDD 215 XD, had suffered a brake failure before crushing a pedestrian to death.
“The presumed dead had been deposited at a morgue by FRSC,” Akinbiyi stated.
He added that the truck had been removed from the container and towed to the Adigboluja Police Station for further investigation.
According to him, another truck and crane were being awaited to remove the container from the roadway and the roadside.
He added that the accident caused traffic disruption on the expressway, while traffic operatives continued efforts to manage the situation.
He concluded by commiserating with the family of the deceased.
