Plane crashes at sold-out UK air show with pilot rushed to hospital
- A pilot has suffered serious injuries after a light aircraft crashed during an air show display at the Stow Maries Great War Aerodrome in Maldon, Essex, shortly before 2:25 pm on Sunday.
- The crash took place during a sold-out festival of aviation held to raise funds for the site’s First World War military aviation museum, forcing organisers to bring the show to an immediate halt.
- The injured aviator was flying as part of the Turbulent display team and was subsequently transported to a hospital in London for treatment, after which the aerodrome was closed to visitors.
- Venue officials confirmed that they are co-operating with both emergency services and the Air Accidents Investigation Branch as inquiries into the cause of the incident begin.
- Stow Maries Aerodrome is a key historical location, containing the largest intact collection of Royal Flying Corps buildings from the First World War.
