The Independent National Electoral Commission has declared Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, winner of the August 15 governorship election after he secured 19 of the state’s 30 local government areas.
Meanwhile, Islamic leaders have warned against anti-Christian rhetoric over the 2027 Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket, while the Academic Staff Union of Universities in Abia State University has vowed to sustain its strike until a suspended professor is recalled.
Elsewhere, Air Peace disclosed that it had lost about $42m in revenue to repeated aircraft damage by ground-handling companies.
1. BREAKING: INEC declares Adeleke winner of Osun gov poll
Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has been declared winner of the August 15 governorship election after securing 19 out of the 30 local government areas in the state. The State Returning Officer, Prof Joshua Ogunwole, Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, declared Adeleke elected at about 7:24am on Sunday.

2. Muslim-Muslim ticket: Islamic leaders warn against anti-Christian rhetoric
Some Islamic leaders have warned that rhetoric against Christians over President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima’s 2027 Muslim-Muslim ticket could hurt the President’s chances at the polls. They urged Nigerians to prioritise competence, fairness, national development and unity over religious considerations.

3. We won’t end strike until suspended Abia varsity professor is recalled — ASUU chair, Mbah
The Academic Staff Union of Universities, Abia State University chapter, has vowed to sustain its strike until the university’s suspended professor, Nnamdi Nwaeze, is recalled. The chapter chairman, Dr Chidi Mbah, spoke on the suspension, the ongoing industrial action and the welfare of university lecturers.

5. Air Peace alleges $42m loss to poor aircraft handling
Air Peace has disclosed that it lost about $42m in revenue due to repeated damage to its aircraft by ground-handling companies. The airline said three of its aircraft had been seriously damaged in the past 12 months and alleged that its planes were damaged about twice a year by the two major ground-handling companies.
