Balmoral, Stamina launch boxing academy in Nigeria

Balmoral Promotions and Stamina For Sale have launched the Stamina High Performance Academy in Nigeria, a new initiative focused on identifying and developing the next generation of Nigerian boxing talent, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

The Academy will launch simultaneously in Lagos and Akwa Ibom, bringing together Stamina’s high performance boxing expertise in the United Kingdom with Balmoral’s Nigerian boxing and promotional platform.

The initiative will focus on talent identification, athlete development, and creating pathways towards professional and international boxing opportunities for Nigerian fighters.

Founder of Stamina For Sale, Tunde Ajayi, said Nigeria possessed an incredible depth of boxing talent that needed to be properly harnessed.

“The objective of Stamina High Performance Academy is to identify that talent, develop it properly and create a pathway for athletes with the ability and ambition to progress to the highest levels of the sport,” Ajayi said.

Ajayi, who has built a reputation for high performance fighter development in the United Kingdom, has worked with several leading professional boxers, including Anthony Yarde, Joel Kodua, Daniel Dubois, Adam Azim, Danny Williams and Harry Simon, among others. He is particularly known for developing Yarde from an amateur novice into a world-level fighter, alongside his System9 approach to boxing training and performance.

“Launching in Lagos and Akwa Ibom gives us an important starting point. We want to build something that can grow over time and create a genuine connection between Nigerian talent and high performance boxing in the United Kingdom and internationally,” Ajayi added.

Also speaking, Dr Ezekiel Adamu of Balmoral Promotions said Nigeria had both the talent and the passion for boxing, adding that what was now required was to create more opportunities for that talent to be identified, developed and showcased.

“Our collaboration with Stamina brings together Nigerian opportunity and United Kingdom expertise. The launch of Stamina High Performance Academy is an exciting first step, and we are looking forward to seeing what the next generation of Nigerian boxers can achieve,” Adamu said.

Further details of the Academy’s initial talent identification trials in Lagos and Akwa Ibom are expected to be announced in the coming days.
