James Van Der Beek had privately been receiving treatment for stage 3 colorectal cancer, having been diagnosed in the summer of 2023 after initially dismissing symptoms like irregular bowel movements.
The actor was widely recognised for his role as Dawson Leery in the US teen drama Dawson’s Creek and had a successful career in television, including roles in various other series.
