Osun decides: ‘I was the target’ – ADC candidate, Salaam reacts to Ejigbo attack

The Osun State African Democratic Congress, ADC, governorship candidate, Najeem Salaam, has reacted to the violent attack at his polling unit at Ejigbo in the ongoing governorship election in the state.

Speaking to newsmen after the incident, Salaam said it was a planned attack, stressing that he was the target.

DAILY POST had reported that Salaam was whisked away by security operatives after violence broke out at his polling unit.

He further stated that the attack was directed at his person but was foiled by his movement away from the area and the intervention of his security personnel.

The ADC candidate revealed that his security team quickly moved him out of the area, describing the incident as serious.

“The plan was to even attack me. That alone was to attack me, my personality. It is because of my strategic movement from that area that made it impossible for him to attack me. It is not a small thing; it is a big thing. It is a well-planned thing,” Salaam said.

He questioned why the incident occurred barely a minute after he cast his vote, noting that the voting process had been ongoing peacefully before his arrival.

According to him, the development left him ‘so bad’ and ‘so sad’, expressing concern about the state of democracy and the effectiveness of security arrangements during elections.
