Revenge of the Nerds star Donald Gibb has died from ongoing health issues, his son has confirmed. The actor was aged 71.
He was best known for his role as the Ogre in the Revenge of the Nerds movies, and also starred on other hit films such as Bloodsport, where he starred alongside Jean Claude Van Damme. His son, Travis, revealed the star died surrounded by family at his home in Texas.
It’s said his death wasn’t sudden with the star dealing with health issues for some time. His son said the actor loved the Lord and his family, friends and fans with all his heart.

Speaking to TMZ, Travis asked for prayers and privacy at this difficult time. And he added his father will “be deeply missed and forever remembered”.
Following his death’s announcement, fans of the star and his movies paid tribute online. One user on Twitter/X shared a clip from Bloodsport and said: “Donald Gibb (Ray Jackson from Bloodsport) passed away at 71. RIP.
“The dude that stepped into the Kumite, BEAT THE HELL OUT OF CHONG LI… and then got taken out by a cheap kick to the stomach. 80s legend we’ll never forget. Thanks for the show, big man.”
Another added: “As a diehard fan and author of “Jackson? You Look Like a Jackson,” all I can say is “any time, any place, any where. If you ever need me, I’ll be there. Rest in peace, Donald Gibb aka Ray Jackson.”

A third wrote: “Sad news about Donald Gibb, best known as “Ogre” in Revenge of the Nerds. A familiar face from a very specific era of film—rest in peace, and condolences to his family, friends, and fan.” And a fourth said: “RIP Donald Gibb aka The Ogre! #nerds.”
Due to his size, Donald’s primary roles saw him play characters such as bouncers and bruisers. As well as Revenge of the Nerds and Bloodsport, he starts in movies such as Any Which Way You Can in 1980.
A year later he starred in Stripes, and in 1982 he played a part in Conan the Barbarian.
On the small screen, Donald took on a number of roles, playing characters who were criminals and prisoners. He starred in a number of episodes of Weird Science and Step by Step, while also featuring in Stand By Your Man.
He landed a main role in 1st & Ten alongside OJ Simpson. Notable smaller roles came on huge shows including Knight Rider, Seinfeld, Cheers, The X-Files and The A-Team.
He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline, and his children.
