An Oyo State High Court sitting in Ibadan, the state capital, has ruled that it is the turn of the Alabi section of the Labosinde family to produce the next Oluwo Afobaje of Ibadanland.

The court, presided over by Justice Babatunde Olawoyin of Oyo State High Court 8, gave the order on Wednesday while delivering judgment in the suit instituted by the Alabi section.

The plaintiff filed the suit after it was denied the opportunity to produce the Oluwo Afobaje of Ibadanland by the two other sections of the family.

DAILY POST gathered that the position of Oluwo Afobaje of Ibadanland is reserved for the Labosinde family in Ibadan.

Our correspondent reports that it is the Oluwo Afobaje of Ibadanland who performs the peak of the traditional rites during the installation of any Olubadan of Ibadanland.

It was reported that the Alabi section of the Labosinde family has been excluded from the position since 1971 by the two other sections within the family.

But Olawoyin, in his judgment on Wednesday, ruled that the next Oluwo Afobaje of Ibadanland should be produced by the Alabi section of the Labosinde family.

DAILY POST reports that the judgment was sequel to the suit instituted by Alhaji Ramoni Alabi on behalf of the Alabi section against Alhaji Abdul Wahab Idowu Popoola of the Mosadogun section and Alhaji Waheed Babalola of the Babalola Onifade section.

The judge, while delivering the judgment in suit number 1/720/2022, pointed out that the evidence of the claimant outweighed that produced by the defendants.

Olawoyin pronounced that Alabi is one of the bonafide children of Labosinde.

He added that the Alabi section has every right to the position of Oluwo Afobaje of Ibadanland, just like the Mosadogun and Onifade-Babalola sections.

Olawoyin also ruled that after the incumbent Oluwo Afobaje of Ibadanland, Chief Wahab Popoola of the Mosadogun section leaves the position, the Alabi section should be allowed to produce the next Oluwo Afobaje of Ibadanland.
