The Lagos State Police Command has arrested four suspected members of a criminal gang allegedly linked to recent killings, armed robbery and cult-related activities in the Ajah axis of the state.
The command also said it recovered three locally made pistols, one live ammunition, two battle axes and a Point-of-Sale machine from the suspects.
The Police Public Relations Officer in Lagos, SP Abimbola Adebesi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday.
According to the statement, the operation followed “sustained follow-up activities in connection with a robbery case.”
The suspects were identified as Kareem Abiodun, 26; Tansiru Emmanuel, 29; Lateef Usman, 28; and Alashe Azeez, 32.
The command said preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects were linked to recent robbery activities around Ajah, Sangotedo and Ibeju-Lekki.
The statement added that the suspects “also made confessional statements regarding their involvement in armed robbery, murder and cultism.”
The command said the “suspects were in police custody and assisting with ongoing investigations,” while “efforts were ongoing to apprehend other members of the gang and recover other exhibits allegedly in their possession.”
It said the suspects would be charged to court after the conclusion of the ongoing investigation.
The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, commended the operatives for their diligence and sustained follow-up efforts.
He charged them to sustain the momentum and intensify efforts towards apprehending other members of the gang.
Fatai also warned cultists, armed robbers and other violent criminals that “the Command will continue to deploy intelligence-led operations to track down and bring them to justice.”
The command urged residents to report suspicious activities through its emergency lines for prompt police response.
