Ligue 1: PSG closing in on £40m deal for World Cup winner Ferran Torres

Barcelona forward Ferran Torres has been given permission to miss training as he closes in on a move to Paris Saint-Germain.

The 26-year-old was due to return to training with Barcelona on Wednesday but will remain absent while negotiations over a potential transfer to PSG continue.

As reported by BBC Sport on Wednesday, the deal is expected to be worth more than £40 million, with Torres having only one year remaining on his contract at the Catalan club.

Torres played a key role in Spain’s World Cup triumph this summer, scoring the extra-time winner against Argentina as his country claimed its second World Cup title.

The forward has previously spoken openly about the possibility of leaving Barcelona, a situation that has frustrated some supporters.

Speaking during a media tour of the United States following Spain’s World Cup victory, Torres admitted that his future remained uncertain.

“I have a contract with Barcelona but, in football, you never know,” he said.

Asked about reports linking him with PSG, Torres added: “Every time these teams want you it’s a good thing.”

“You never know because in football everything can change in one minute, so I have to be ready for everything.”

A transfer to PSG would see Torres reunite with Luis Enrique, his former Barcelona manager and player, who now leads the French club.

PSG have won the Champions League in each of the past two seasons and are continuing to strengthen their squad.

The French side could also lose Bradley Barcola this summer, with Liverpool reportedly interested in the forward.

Torres joined Barcelona in 2022 after spending two seasons at Manchester City. He has scored 25 goals in 65 appearances for Spain.

With his Barcelona contract entering its final year, the potential move to PSG could give the Catalan club a substantial transfer fee while allowing Torres to begin a new chapter in France.
