Afrobeats star, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has said United States President, Donald Trump, is also his president.
Davido stated this in a series of exchanges with users on X on Tuesday, following criticism over his recent appeal to Trump concerning the forthcoming Osun State governorship election.
The singer had earlier appealed to the US president and the international community to pay attention to the August 15 election, citing concerns over possible violence, intimidation and disruption of the electoral process.
His appeal attracted reactions on social media, with some X users criticising the singer while others supported him.
Reacting, one user, Ifedayo, also known as JIMCRUZ, trolled Davido, asking, “Is everything okay, David?”
Responding, Davido said, “So I can’t tweet my president again?”
Another X user, ÌKÀ NATION, @Wuwaika90, posted a picture of Davido and President Bola Tinubu sitting and laughing together, with the caption, “If Trump is your president, who is this?”
Davido replied, “He’s my president too; I get dual citizenship. Any problem?”
Davido, who holds Nigerian and American citizenship, is a nephew of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke and has openly supported his uncle’s bid for re-election.
In his earlier appeal, Davido urged the United States and the international community to monitor the Osun election and encourage Nigerian authorities to protect voters and ensure that their votes were respected.
“President Donald Trump, I am calling your attention to the situation in Osun State, Nigeria, as we approach the election.
“There are growing concerns about tension and the possibility of violence, intimidation, or disruption of the democratic process,” he wrote.
He also urged political actors and residents to reject violence, saying, “We do not want bloodshed. We do not want intimidation. We want peace, transparency, and a free and fair election.”
