The Vice-Chancellor of the Rev. Fr. Moses Orshio Adasu University, Makurdi (MOAUM), Prof. Timothy Terseer Alabar, has disclosed that five suspects have been arrested in connection with the alleged killing of a lecturer of the institution, Prof. Gabriel Saawuan Nyityo.
He made the disclosure on Monday while responding to questions from journalists in Makurdi.
Nyityo, a professor in the Department of History, was killed by unknown gunmen on July 7, 2026, at his residence in Makurdi along with his younger sibling by suspected gunmen.
Prof Alabar described the incident as a major setback to the university and the Department of History.
He said that five arrests had been made, with the suspects reportedly from Awe Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, based on briefs from security agencies.
