Liverpool complete loan signing of Barcelona defender
- Ronald Araujo has completed a season-long loan move from Barcelona to Liverpool, which includes an option to make the transfer permanent for a pre-agreed fee of £47 million.
- The 27-year-old Uruguayan international accepted a pay cut to facilitate the transfer, with Liverpool covering his full salary for the season and paying no loan fee to Barcelona.
- Araujo passed his medical on Monday and will immediately reinforce Liverpool’s defence following injuries to Joe Gomez, Giovanni Leoni, Jeremy Jacquet, and Conor Bradley.
- Having been appointed Barcelona captain in January, Araujo brings key leadership to Anfield to compensate for the summer departures of Ibrahima Konate, Andy Robertson, and Mohamed Salah.
- The defender becomes Liverpool’s second signing under manager Iraola following Victor Munoz, while the club continues negotiations with Paris Saint-Germain over winger Bradley Barcola.
