Osun poll: Avoid bloodshed, APC chieftain urges voters

The Director-General of the Osun West Governorship Campaign Council of the All Progressives Congress, Dotun Babayemi, has appealed to residents of the state to participate peacefully in the August 15 governorship election.
Babayemi, in a statement issued on Sunday by his Media Office and obtained in Osogbo, urged voters to support the APC governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, for what he described as a transformational change in the state.
He specifically appealed to voters and other stakeholders to avoid bloodshed and the wanton destruction of lives and property during the election.
“The task before all of us is to choose a new governor and this we can do peacefully through our votes without maiming, killings or destroying property. This becomes instructive because of the fact that regardless of our political differences, we remain members of the same family bonded by a common heritage called Osun State. The fact remains: elections will come and go, but our state will continue to remain.”
According to him, the cost of repairing damages could be beyond comprehension after the election, adding that such a situation could be avoided if stakeholders and residents refrained from treating the poll as a do-or-die affair.
Babayemi assured that the APC candidate would implement people-centred programmes capable of taking the state to greater heights.
“Our candidate, Alhaji Oyebamiji, is ready and rearing to go. With the massive support of the people across the state, I am optimistic that he will triumph and our state will be good for it,” Babayemi said.
Meanwhile, a three-day staggered medical outreach, tagged ‘Omooba Dotun Babayemi-AMBO Medical Outreach’, organised as part of efforts to support the party’s campaign, ended on Saturday in Gbongan, the headquarters of Ayedade Local Government Area.
The outreach was held separately in Orile-Owu, Tonkere and Gbongan, where about 10,000 people received free medical services.
Beneficiaries received free blood pressure and blood sugar checks, medical consultations, medications, eye care services, health education and other interventions.
Patients requiring further medical attention were referred for additional treatment, with the associated costs borne by Babayemi. Speaking on the outreach, Babayemi said healthcare should not be treated as a luxury, while expressing concern over the condition of some primary healthcare centres in the state.
“Healthcare should not become a luxury because our primary healthcare centres have been abandoned and left in deplorable conditions. The suffering of our people cannot continue while those entrusted with governance look away.
“This outreach demonstrates that the APC and its governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, remain connected to the grassroots and genuinely place the health and welfare of the people above politics”, he concluded.
