Weather forecasting models indicate that temperatures in certain areas of the UK could climb to as high as 24C in the coming weeks.
The Met Office’s latest forecast paints a rather gloomy picture for the week ahead, with thermometers unlikely to reach 20C anywhere across the country between Monday and Friday, reports the Mirror.
Yet the ECMWF weather model predicts a welcome turnaround next week, with a pleasant four-day warm spell beginning on May 21, when the south-east of England could bask in highs of 23C. Temperatures of 20C are also expected across much of central England, according to the weather maps.

On May 22, the maps indicate that 24C highs are possible across the south-east, including London, while other southern regions could reach 22C and central England may see 21C.
May 23 is forecast to deliver highs of 23C across southern England and 21C in the Midlands. Northern Ireland and Scotland are expected to remain somewhat cooler throughout this period, though areas of Wales bordering England could see mercury levels nudging towards 20C.
The ECMWF model points to May 24 as the standout day for widespread warmth, with highs of 22C and 23C anticipated across a vast stretch of England, spanning from the south coast all the way up to Yorkshire. Altogether, the maps indicate that 35 counties across England and Wales could experience temperatures of 20C or above during the four-day period.

The Met Office’s outlook indicates temperatures may become “rather warm” approaching the month’s end. Nevertheless, we should anticipate “cooler than average” conditions initially.
The Met Office’s projection for May 16 to May 25 reads: “Changeable and at times rather unsettled conditions look to dominate through the middle part of May, with low pressure often close by.
“This means periods of rain or showers, some of which could be heavy, for many places, though some drier interludes are also expected. Initially temperatures likely cooler than average, but tending to recover, perhaps becoming rather warm by the end of the period as it tends to become more settled, especially in the south.”
